Japanese: ル・アーブル(英語表記)Le Havre
Le Havre (English spelling)
A city in the Seine-Maritime department in northern France. A large trading port at the mouth of the Seine River, with a population of 197,000 (1990). Since its opening by Francis I in 1517, it has continued to develop, and although the port and much of the city were destroyed during World War II, it was rebuilt after the war as one of France's most modern cities through large-scale urban planning. In addition to shipbuilding, aircraft, and machinery manufacturing, the petrochemical industry has also developed significantly. The port can accommodate 200,000-ton tankers, and the nearby Paul-Jérôme oil refinery is the largest in France, and oil is sent to Paris and Belgium by pipeline.
