Teachers' Code of Ethics

Teachers' Code of Ethics

Generally speaking, it refers to a declaration of the basic attitude and policy that teachers should adopt in carrying out their duties, and the term "Teachers' Code of Ethics" usually refers to the 10-item code of ethics that was decided by the Japan Teachers' Union at its 9th convention (held in Niigata) in June 1952. The code declares that teachers should respond to the issues facing Japanese society, live alongside young people, strive for equal educational opportunities, protect peace, and act on the basis of scientific truth (items 1-4), protect educational freedom, pursue correct politics, resist social decadence, and create a new culture (items 5-7), be teachers as workers (item 8), and protect the right to live and show unity (items 9-10).
