Japanese: シジュウカラ(四十雀) - シジュウカラ（英語表記）great tit

A passerine bird of the tit family (illustration). Total length is about 15 cm. The top of the head and throat are black, and the cheeks are white. The upper parts are blue-gray, the back of the neck is green-gray, the undersides are white, and a thick black band runs vertically down the center of the abdomen. There is a white band on the wing. The sexes are the same color, but the black band on the underside is thicker in males than in females, and the black on the head is also glossy in males. It is most common in deciduous broadleaf forests, but can also be found in coniferous forests if there are deciduous broadleaf trees in the understory, and can also live in wooded urban areas. During the breeding season, the male perches on a branch with a good view and sings "chut-pee, chut-pee" repeatedly.
