Hu-jia shi-ba-pai (English spelling)

Hu-jia shi-ba-pai (English spelling)
A long classical Chinese lyric poem. It is said to have been written by Cai Yan of the Later Han Dynasty. She was captured by the Xiongnu's Left Wise King during the upheaval, became his wife and bore two children, and the 18 songs, set to the tune of the huqiang (a type of reed flute) and koto, tell the story of her life of suffering, from her being redeemed by Cao Cao more than ten years later. It is included in the 59th volume of the Collection of Songs of the Music Hall. Although it is written by Cai Yan herself, there have been many ancient theories about whether it was written by her, and most people have been against it. In 1959, Guo Moruo insisted that it was written by Cai Yan, rekindling the debate, and a compilation of the works was published, the Collection of Discussions on the Eighteen Beats of Huqiang.
