Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. A military commander in the Muromachi period. Son of Shibukawa Yoshikagami. Jibu-daifu and Sahyoe-no-jo. After Yoshitoshi, head of the Shiba clan, incurred the wrath of Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa due to a conflict with senior vassal Kai Tsuneharu and others and fell from power, and his son Matsuomaru was soon deposed as well, he was welcomed as his successor by the Shibukawa clan, also of the Ashikaga clan, in 1461 (Kansho 2), and took over as shugo of the three provinces of Echizen (Fukui Prefecture), Owari (Aichi Prefecture), and Totomi (Shizuoka Prefecture). This was likely due to the wishes of the Asakura clan, who had risen to the highest position among the vassals of the Shiba clan after the death of Tsuneharu. In the same year, Yoshimitsu's father, Mochitane, and Yoshimasa's favorite, Ise Sadachika, campaigned for Yoshimitsu to be pardoned, and he became head of the family in July of the following year, but most of his retainers supported Yoshikazu, and in September of the same year, Yoshikazu's father-in-law, Yamana Sozen, and others expelled Sadachika, so Yoshikazu became head of the family again, and in 1467, he was appointed as kanrei. This succession dispute was one of the causes of the Onin War, as Yoshimitsu sought support from Hosokawa Katsumoto, who was in conflict with Sozen, but he was at the mercy of the intentions of senior vassals and the Shogun's close associates, and it ended up decisively undermining the authority of the Shiba clan. Yoshikazu, who belonged to the Western army on Sozen's side during the Onin War, was dismissed as kanrei in 1470, and Asakura Takakage, who had gone to Echizen in the leap month of October under the pretext of suppressing Yoshimitsu of the Eastern army, switched sides to the Eastern army, and in 1471, he was recognized as deputy governor of Echizen Province, putting Yoshikazu in a difficult position. After that, the Asakura clan defeated the Kai and Ninomiya clans who had remained on Yoshikazu's side, and in the same year, Yoshikazu almost completely subjugated Echizen, and in the same year, Yoshikazu left Kyoto for Owari. There, he was employed by the deputy governor Oda Toshihiro and fought against Oda Toshisada, who was on Yoshikazu's side, but his movements were soon lost.
