Silk reeling

Silk reeling
This is the process of finding the main threads of boiled cocoons, separating the threads, combining several of these threads and reeling them into a single strand of raw silk. It consists of the steps of stringing, separating the threads, collecting the threads, attaching the threads, twisting, winding the reel, and drying. Of these, the attaching step is the most important step in the reeling process. In the normal reeling method using a counter-reeling machine, the worker attaches the threads 15 to 25 times per minute using the throwing or winding method with his or her finger, while in the multi-reel reeling method, a rotary attacher is usually used and the worker can attach the threads more than 20 times per minute with one hand and about 35 times with both hands. In an automatic reeling machine, most of the reeling process is performed automatically, and the worker only needs to resupply the cocoons to the cocoon feeder, repair any malfunctions in the reeling frame, and adjust the size of the cocoons.

Reeling thread
reeling

The process of producing raw silk from cocoons. The cocoons are boiled to soften and dissolve the sericin, making the silk threads easier to extract. The threads are then collected and passed through a thread collector to form a single strand of silk. This is the name given to the primitive, manual methods of reeling silk, such as manual reeling, which have fallen out of use with the development of machinery.
