Japanese: 梅田幽斎 - うめだゆうさい
Umeda Yusai
He was a doctor from Edo who opened a practice in Mitajiri and also opened a private school. Omura Masujiro also studied medicine at this school when he was young. He also learned about smallpox vaccination in Nagasaki, which was a feared infectious disease that killed many people at the time, and was one of the first to implement it within the domain.

江戸出身の医者で三田尻で開業し、同時に塾を開きました。大村益次郎[おおむらますじろう]も若いころにこの塾で医学などを学んでいます。また、当時多くの人々が死亡し、恐れられていた伝染病の天然痘[てんねんとう]を予防できる種痘[しゅとう]の方法を長崎で学び、藩内でいち早く行いました。
