Conjugate acid - Kyoyakusan

A term for a conjugate base. In the Bronsted acid-base theory, a Bronsted base with a proton H ⁺ attached is the conjugate acid for that base. For example, ammonia _NH3 is

_NH3 +H ⁺ → _NH4 ⁺

In the reaction above, H ⁺ is received and _NH4 ⁺ is formed, so _NH4 ⁺ is the conjugate acid for _NH3 .

_H2O → H ⁺ + ^OH-

In the reaction above, if H ₂ O is considered as an acid, ^OH- is the conjugate base (the acid with H ⁺ removed), but

_H2O + H ⁺ → _H3O ⁺

In the reaction above, H ₃ O ⁺ is the conjugate acid to H ₂ O.

共役塩基に対する用語．ブレンステッドの酸塩基の理論において，ブレンステッド塩基にプロトン H^＋ が結合したものが，その塩基に対する共役酸である．たとえば，アンモニアNH₃は，

NH₃ ＋ H^＋ → NH₄^＋

の反応で H^＋ を受けとってNH₄^＋になるから，NH₄^＋はNH₃に対する共役酸である．また，

H₂O → H^＋ ＋ OH^－

の反応で，H₂Oを酸と考えれば，OH^－は共役塩基(酸から H^＋ を除いたもの)であるが，

H₂O ＋ H^＋ → H₃O^＋

の反応では，H₃O^＋はH₂Oに対する共役酸である．
