...In 1935, there were 2,000 kamishibai artists in Tokyo, and in 1936, at its peak, the number reached 30,000 nationwide. While kamishibai artists would take turns lending out their hand-painted works, which were then circulated around the country, in 1937 printed kamishibai stories were created to promote the war, and these were called educational kamishibai. Kamishibai fell into disuse during the Pacific War due to personnel and resource constraints, but became popular again for about 10 years after the war. ...
