The most active in Italy is the Asiago Observatory, attached to the University of Padua, with 1.82-m and 1.2-m reflecting telescopes and a 67-cm Schmidt telescope. The Arcetri Observatory outside Florence and the Zurich Observatory in Switzerland both have long histories of solar observation. The Leiden Observatory in the Netherlands has achieved brilliant results in observations and theory in fields such as astrophysics and the structure of the galaxy.
