[From independence to revolution]
The Cubans then again prepared for independence under the leadership of J. Martí. Martí formed the Cuban Revolutionary Party in 1892, and with the help of Generals Máximo Gómez and Antonio Maceo, heroes of the Ten Years' War, invaded Cuba from the United States in 1895, starting another war of independence. The United States government, which had been paying serious attention to the situation in Cuba, finally sided with the Cubans and started a war with Spain in April 1898 (the Spanish-American War).
