_H1 blockers (classical antihistamines) were first discovered when D. Bobet and his colleagues at the Pasteur Institute in France discovered a compound that antagonized histamine during their research into antiadrenergic drugs. They then synthesized and tested many compounds, eventually arriving at 929F, the prototype of antihistamines (1937). This compound was not put to practical use due to its high toxicity, but a huge number of antihistamines have since been developed and used, and a considerable number are still in use today.
