Japanese: 堕落論 - だらくろん

A critical essay by Sakaguchi Ango. Published in Shincho in April 1946. This work made Sakaguchi Ango a popular author. "The war is over. The heroes of the kamikaze squadrons have already become black market dealers, and their widows are already swelling with joy at the sight of their new faces," he wrote. He argued that people have not changed, but have simply returned to being human, and that "Live and fall. Is there any convenient shortcut that can truly save humanity other than the proper procedure?" This essay provided guidance to many Japanese who were lost in the chaotic period immediately after the defeat.

坂口安吾の評論。1946年4月《新潮》に発表。この1作で坂口安吾は流行作家になった。〈戦争は終った。特攻隊の勇士はすでに闇屋となり，未亡人はすでに新たな面影（おもかげ）によって胸をふくらませているではないか〉といい，人間が変わったのでなく，ただ人間へ戻っただけで，〈生きよ堕ちよ，その正当な手順のほかに，真に人間を救いうる便利な近道がありうるだろうか〉と説くこの評論は，敗戦直後の混乱期に方途を失っている日本人の多くにひとつの指針を与えた。
