...In 1903, Kyoto Imperial University's Second Medical College was established based on this hospital, as a result of a long-standing movement to establish a university, and was called Fukuoka Medical College (medical department and affiliated hospital). Meanwhile, with a huge donation from the Furukawa family of the Furukawa Mining Company, famous for the Ashio Copper Mine Pollution Incident, preparations for the expansion of the College of Technology progressed, and Kyushu Imperial University was established in 1910, with the College of Technology and College of Medicine opening the following year (the first president was Yamakawa Kenjiro, former president of Tokyo Imperial University). With the revision of the Imperial University Act in 1914, the two specialized colleges were renamed the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering, respectively, and a new Faculty of Agriculture was added. ...
