Rymer's (1814-1884) work Bernie the Vampire (1847) was a representative work after that, and at the end of the 19th century, the image of a female vampire appeared frequently as a "cruel beauty" or "femme fatale" metaphor for destructive sexual temptation. This is why a man-seduction or a seductress is commonly called a vamp (short for vampire). …
