Oribe shelf - Oribe shelf

Japanese: 織部棚 - おりべだな
Oribe shelf - Oribe shelf

This refers to a cabinet with lacquer work done by Koami Chogen (1572-1607) based on the tastes of the feudal tea master Furuta Oribe (1543-1615). According to the Koami Family Records, Chogen, the younger brother of the 7th Choan, states, "Furuta Oribe, who became a monk at the age of 19 and began to practice tea at the age of 16, was fond of lacquer work. The Oribe cabinet and cabinet with the picture of an old plum tree on the second tier, with three smiles on the front of the room, and the wooden fence in front of the door, are filled with pictures of fragrances, and are the work of Chogen." Existing examples include the Kokei Sansho lacquer work (owned by Sorimachi), a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, as well as several in the Tokyo National Museum and Nikko Rinnoji Temple. Furthermore, a shrine shelf is made by combining a two-story shelf and a two-story shrine, both of which were used in the furnishings of aristocrats, and is one of the furnishings of samurai in the Muromachi period.
