A nobleman in the Heian period. Son of the Minister of the Right Toshiie and the daughter of Minamoto no Kanenaga. Childhood name Akomaru. Favored by Emperor Shirakawa from an early age, he became the head priest of Shirakawa-in after the abdication. Upon his death in the midst of his power, his nephew Fujiwara no Munetada wrote in his diary, Chuu-u-ki, that the retired emperor consulted Munetada on all matters, so his authority was unruly, his household wealth exceeded that of most people, he held the three offices of Gon Dainagon, Tinbukyo, and Chugu no Daifu, and his household held fiefs in Bitchu and Inaba, and his family was prosperous. <References> Kono Fusao, Research on the Political History of the Late Heian Period; Toda Yoshimi, Chuu-u-ki
