...One of the Taoist beliefs that flourished during the Tang and Song dynasties in China. The nine palaces of heaven, or nine regions, are ruled by nine gods: Taiyi, Sheti, Xuanyuan, Zhaoyao, Tianfu, Seiryu, Xianchi, Taiyin, and Tenyi. It is believed that as Taiyi, who is placed in the North Star, travels through the nine palaces assigned to the eight trigrams of the Book of Changes, disasters such as drought, war, and political upheaval occur in the nine areas on earth that correspond to each of the nine palaces. ...Divination derived from astrology in ancient China, and has been introduced to Japan to this day. It is also called the Nine Palaces. The Nine Stars are Water Star No. 1 (White), Earth Star No. 2 (Black), Wood Star No. 3 (Green), Wood Star No. 4 (Green), Earth Star No. 5 (Yellow), Metal Star No. 6 (White), Metal Star No. 7 (Red), Earth Star No. 8 (White), and Fire Star No. 9 (Red). The fortune of a direction is predicted based on the changes in fortune caused by the movement of these stars through the Nine Palaces.
