When normal osmosis occurs across a semipermeable membrane, a large pressure is applied to the side to which the solvent is moving, causing the solvent to move in the opposite direction to the side with a lower concentration of solute. This is used in desalinating seawater and concentrating juice. Source: Asakura Publishing Nutrition and Biochemistry Dictionary Information |
