[history]
The first written mention of Shiba was in the 1486 (18th year of Bunmei) book "Kaikoku Zakki" (Traveling Records): "Even though the smoke of the tide rises, the people of Shiba are still stuck on their boats." The area was lined with feudal lord residences, with Zojoji Temple, which was moved from Kaizuka (now Kioicho, Chiyoda Ward) as the family temple of the Tokugawa clan in 1598 (3rd year of Keicho), and Seishoji Temple, which was also moved to the foot of Mount Atago in 1600. The main residences of the Date clan of the Sendai domain and the Shimazu clan of the Satsuma domain were large.
