...The involvement of the peribranchial nucleus in taste was discovered in rats by R. Norgren and CM Leonard (1970), inspired by the taste pathways of fish discovered by CJ Herrick in 1905.

It is not known exactly how many basic elements of human taste there are. In the 16th to 18th centuries, many people in the West, including the botanist C. Linnaeus, classified tastes, including oiliness and tingling.
