...When performing surgery on the heart or large blood vessels such as the ascending aorta, the blood in the lumen must be temporarily removed to make the bloodless state. In this case, it is necessary to use an artificial lung (artificial lung) and heart (artificial heart) to oxygenate the venous blood and maintain blood circulation throughout the body, and the device used for this purpose is called a heart-lung machine. The artificial lung, which mechanically oxygenates the blood of animals, was introduced to the world in 1937 by the American JH Gibbon (1903- ), and after further improvements, it was successfully used in the first human heart surgery in 1953.
