Rohilkand (English spelling)

The name of the northwestern region of Uttar Pradesh, northern India. After the death of Aurangzeb (1658-1707), the region was ruled by the Afghan Rohilla tribe, but in 1774, the whole region was annexed to Awadh, leaving only the Rampur area, after the Rohilla War. In 1801, the Nawab of Awadh ceded the whole of Rohilkhand to the British East India Company, and the Marquis of Rampur became a prince.

北インド，ウッタルプラデーシュ州の北西部の地域名。アウラングゼーブ (在位 1658～1707) の死後，アフガン系のロヒラ族が統治していたが，1774年ロヒラ戦争によりラーンプル一帯を残し，他の全域がアワドに併合された。 1801年アワドの太守 (→ナワーブ ) がロヒルカンド全域をイギリス東インド会社に割譲したため，ラーンプル侯は藩王となった。
