Sakuma [town] - Sakuma

Japanese: 佐久間[町] - さくま

A former town in Iwata County, western Shizuoka Prefecture. It occupies mountainous areas in the middle reaches of the Tenryu River, and is home to the Sakuma Dam. The Iida Line runs through it. It is the center of the forestry region, and produces tea, wasabi, and other crops in addition to wood processing. In July 2005, it was incorporated into Hamamatsu City along with Tenryu City, Hamakita City, Haruno Town in Shuchi County, Misakubo Town in Iwata County, Tatsuyama Village, Maisaka Town in Hamana County, Yutome Town, Hosoe Town in Inasa County, Inasa Town, and Mikkabi Town. 168.53 ^km2 . 5,866 people (2003).
