The largest commercial bank in France. Headquartered in Paris. Known by the abbreviation BNP. Also known as the National Bank of Paris. Founded in 1966 by the merger of Le Comptoir National d'Escompte de Paris, the national discount bank of Paris that was nationalized under the 1945 Banking Law, and La Banque Nationale pour le Commerce et l'Industrie, the national bank of commerce and industry.
