In this case, figurative haniwa refers to haniwa that are modeled after various man-made or natural objects. If further divided by subject, there are house-shaped haniwa and utensil-shaped haniwa that are modeled after man-made objects, and animal-shaped haniwa and human-shaped haniwa that are modeled after natural objects.
