Because the performance of azo pigments is unsatisfactory compared to phthalocyanine pigments, new pigments with performance comparable to phthalocyanine in the yellow, orange, red, and purple regions have been developed in recent years, and these are called modern pigments. Specific examples include tetrachloroisoindolinone yellow (Figure 4-a), quinacridone red to purple (Figure 4-b), dioxazine purple, and condensed azo pigments. These not only have high light, water, acid, and alkali resistance, but also have high solvent and heat resistance, making them suitable for baking paints for automobiles.
