Myooji Temple (English name)

Japanese: 妙応寺 - みょうおうじ（英語表記）Miào yìng sì

This Buddhist temple is located inside the Fucheng Gate in Beijing, China. Its white pagoda is famous and is known as the White Pagoda of Miaoying Temple. There used to be a brick pagoda built in the same place in 1096 (Shouchang 2) during the Liao Dynasty, but in 1271 (Zhiyuan 8) during the reign of Emperor Sejo of the Yuan Dynasty, it was decided to demolish it and build a Lama pagoda. Under the direction of Anika (Anika), a member of the Nepalese royal family, the current White Pagoda was completed eight years later, and was given the name Dashen Shoumanan Temple at that time. It is 50.9m tall and painted white, with a brick-built Sumeru-style base and a circular tower body and pagoda. It is also the first Lama pagoda to appear in China.

中国北京市阜成門内にある仏寺。白塔が著名で，妙応寺白塔として知られる。かつて同地には遼の1096年(寿昌2)建設の塼（せん）塔があったが，元の世祖の1271年(至元8)にこれを廃してラマ塔を建てることになり，ネパール国王一族のアニカ(阿尼哥)が指導し，8年後に完成したのが現在の白塔で，このとき大聖寿万安寺の名を賜った。全高50.9m，白色塗で，塼積みの須弥座式基壇と円形平面の塔身･塔刹からなる。中国に出現した最初のラマ塔でもある。
