statics

...the science that discusses the relationship between forces acting on an object and the resulting motion or change in motion. A distinction is sometimes made between statics, which deals with situations in which motion or change does not occur, that is, when discussing the equilibrium relationship between multiple forces, and dynamics, which deals with other situations. Also, when the science is limited to describing the state of motion and does not consider forces as the cause of motion (and changes in motion), it is called kinematics.
