Kitchen rudder - Kitchen rudder

...Flettner rudder is a type of rudder that uses a normal counterbalanced rudder as the main rudder, a small auxiliary rudder at its rear end, and the force acting on the auxiliary rudder to rotate the main rudder and reduce the horsepower of the steering gear. All of the above rudders use the lift acting on the rudder blade to create a turning force, but there are also other rudders that obtain turning force by manipulating the direction of the thrust of the screw propeller wake, such as the Kort nozzle rudder, which houses the screw propeller in a cylindrical nozzle and rotates the nozzle around a vertical axis to change the direction of the thrust, and the Kitchen rudder, which surrounds the screw propeller in two semicircular cylinders and provides the ship with thrust or turning force by opening and closing these cylinders and changing their direction.
[Steering engine]
The simplest method of steering is to operate the rudder directly by hand, which is attached to the top of the rudder stock, but this is only suitable for very small ships.
