Born: July 7, 1893 in Zagreb
[Died] December 29, 1981, Zagreb Croatian poet, playwright, and novelist. A representative contemporary Croatian writer and a promoter of Croatian culture. After graduating from the Army University in Budapest, he served as a private in World War I, during which he produced the expressionist plays Legenda (1914), Michelangelo Buonarotti (19), and the poetry collections Pan and Tri simfonije (17). Since then, he has been active in the fields of poetry, playwright, novels, and criticism. His representative works include Hrvatski bog Mars (22), a novel depicting the tragedy of war, Povratak Filipa Latinovića (32), a novel depicting the collapse of the bourgeoisie, and the plays Golgota (22) and Gospoda Glembajevi (28), both on the same theme. He also wrote many critical essays and travelogues.
