An annual plant of the legume family. It grows in rice fields and marshes near water, with upright stems 50-100cm tall and hollow at the top. The leaves are alternate and even-pinnately compound, with 20-30 pairs of linear leaflets 6-9mm long and lanceolate stipules. From summer to autumn, it produces sparse racemes in the leaf axils, with yellow butterfly-shaped flowers. The fruit has nodes and contains 6-8 seeds, which detach at the nodes when ripe.
