Yoshiyama Akira - Kissan Mincho

Japanese: 吉山明兆 - きっさんみんちょう

A painter-monk in the early Muromachi period. A native of Awaji. Also known as "Myocho." He entered Tofukuji Temple as a disciple of Daido Ii and was called Chodenshi because he was in the position of densu (master priest) . His other name was Hasouai . He excelled in Buddhist paintings, portraits of Taoist and Buddhist figures, and portraits, and his works include "Great Nirvana," "Five Hundred Arhats," and "Portrait of Shoichi Kokushi." From the first year of Bunwa to the third year of Eikyo ( 1352-1431 ).

室町初期の画僧。淡路の人。「みょうちょう」とも。大道一以の法弟として東福寺にはいり、殿司(でんす)職についたので兆殿司と呼ばれる。別号、破草鞋(はそうあい)。仏画、道釈人物画、頂相等にすぐれ、「大涅槃図」「五百羅漢像」「聖一国師像」などの作品がある。文和元～永享三年（一三五二‐一四三一）
