A painter-monk in the early Muromachi period. A native of Awaji. Also known as "Myocho." He entered Tofukuji Temple as a disciple of Daido Ii and was called Chodenshi because he was in the position of densu (master priest) . His other name was Hasouai . He excelled in Buddhist paintings, portraits of Taoist and Buddhist figures, and portraits, and his works include "Great Nirvana," "Five Hundred Arhats," and "Portrait of Shoichi Kokushi." 室町初期の画僧。淡路の人。「みょうちょう」とも。大道一以の法弟として東福寺にはいり、殿司(でんす)職についたので兆殿司と呼ばれる。別号、破草鞋(はそうあい)。仏画、道釈人物画、頂相等にすぐれ、「大涅槃図」「五百羅漢像」「聖一国師像」などの作品がある。文和元~永享三年(一三五二‐一四三一)
