[raw]? [Died] November 21, 1822. Kyoto jiuta koto performer and composer. He was blind. His capital name was Kuboichi or Tsuneichi. In January 1798, he became a kengyo under Miyake Eiichi kengyo. He inherited the Fujiike style of music from Fujiike Kengyo, a disciple of Yasumura Kengyo, and revised the Fujiike style in the catalog of koto group songs included in works such as "Songs and Practices" (1805). He was also a leading composer of shamisen music from the Bunsei period (1804-1830), and a pioneer of Kyoto-style music such as Kyo-Hanauta and Kyoto-style Tegotomono. His works include "Uji Meguri," "Shiki no Namikaze," "Midnight Moon," "Yotsu no Tami," and other pieces known as "Matsuura's Four Things." In addition, many of his tegotomono pieces, such as "Shin Ukifune," "Saga no Haru," and "Takaosan," were composed by Urazaki Kengyo and Yaezaki Kengyo with alternate koto hands, which became popular. His disciples included Matsuzaki Kengyo and Matsuno Kengyo. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
