Also called a polygon mirror. In addition to being used as an angle standard, some rotate at high speed and are used to scan light beams such as lasers. A cylinder is machined into a regular polygonal prism, and each side of the cylinder is finished with a mirror surface so that it can adequately reflect light. It is made of glass or metal and is usually installed in a protective case. The angle standard is the angle θ between the normal to each reflecting surface projected onto a plane parallel to the base.
