Born May 21, 1911. Joined the Sosakuza Theatre Company in 1935, and moved to the Shinkyo Theatre Company the following year, where she attracted attention with her performance in "The Bottom." In 1950, she participated in the founding of the Mingei Theatre Company, where she played an active role as a senior actress, appearing in "Under the Magnolia Tree" and other plays. Known for her roles as old women, she appeared in films such as "Kiku and Isamu" and "Nian-chan." In 1991, she received many awards, including the Japan Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as a wealthy elderly woman in "The Great Kidnapping." In 2003, she received the Japan Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for "News from Amida Hall." Died April 27, 2010, aged 98. Born in Tokyo. Graduated from Yamawaki Girls' High School.
