...Total length 10-18cm. All species are small birds, smaller than the great tit, except for a few species such as the long-tailed manakin Chiroxiphia linearis (total length including tail 25cm) (illustration), in which the male's two central tail feathers are particularly long. All species except Schiffornis (3 species) are heterochromatic, with the males having bright plumage with striking red, orange, yellow, green, blue and black coloring.
