Kanze Theatre

Japanese: 観世座 - かんぜざ

The name of this school of Noh is said to come from the childhood name of its founder, Kan'ami Kiyotsugu, Kanzemaru. It was originally called Yamato Yusaki-za, one of the four Yamato za. In 1374, it developed under the protection of Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The next, Zeami, perfected Noh. Later, during the reign of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, it was temporarily usurped by the Konparu-za, but was protected by Tokugawa Ieyasu and became the head of the four zas, a position it holds to this day.

能楽の一流派
名称は創始者観阿弥清次の幼名観世丸によるという。もと大和結崎 (ゆうさき) 座で大和四座の一つ。1374年将軍足利義満の保護をうけ発展。つぎの世阿弥が能を大成した。のち豊臣秀吉のとき，一時金春 (こんぱる) 座に勢力を奪われたが，徳川家康が保護し四座の筆頭となり今日に至る。
