Northern Kingdom of Israel

In the early 10th century BCE, David moved the capital from Hebron, the capital of the southern tribes, to Jerusalem, located halfway between the northern and southern composite kingdoms, and brought the "Ark of the Covenant," a symbol of the tribal alliance before the kingdom was established, there, claiming that Yahweh, the God of Israel, had chosen Jerusalem and at the same time chosen David and his descendants to rule all of Israel.
