Chemical formula: C 10 H 16 O. Also known as camphor. In the medical field, it is called camphor. A type of monoterpene ketone. (1) D-isomer: Obtained by steam distillation of camphor wood chips. Transparent, colorless plate-like crystals. Sublimable substance with a distinctive odor. Melting point: 179°C. Used as a cardiac stimulant, but the intermediate product of oxidation in vivo is called vitacamphor and has a particularly strong effect. It is also used in cosmetics and molecular weight measurement by the Rust method. (2) DL-isomer: Organically synthesized from α-pinene. Melting point: 179°C. Optically inactive, but has the same physiological effects as the D-isomer. Both are used as plasticizers for celluloid, mothballs for clothing, and in fragrances.
