Folger Library

The official name is the Folger Shakespeare Library. It is an American library famous for its collection of books related to Shakespeare. It is located in Washington, DC. The foundation of the library was initiated by Henry Clay Folger (1857-1930), who served as chairman of the Standard Oil Company and was a lifelong collector of rare books related to Shakespeare. It was completed in 1932 after his death and was donated to the United States government along with the building and books.

正式名称フォルジャー･シェークスピア･ライブラリーFolger Shakespeare Library。シェークスピア関係の蔵書で有名なアメリカの図書館。所在地ワシントンD.C.。スタンダード石油会社の会長を務め，生涯を通じてシェークスピア関係の稀覯（きこう）本の収集家であったフォルジャーHenry Clay Folger(1857‐1930)によって図書館創設が着手され，彼の死後1932年に完成し，建物，図書ともども合衆国政府に寄贈された。
