An annual plant of the Tilia family found in sunny areas and roadsides in the mountains and fields of Japan, it can reach a height of 50 cm (illustration). It is densely covered with short, star-shaped soft hairs all over. The leaves are alternate, ovate or narrowly ovate, 2.5-6 cm long, slightly acute at the tip, circular or truncate at the base, bluntly serrated at the margin, and have three veins. The stipules are linear, 2-4 mm long, and deciduous. The flowers are solitary in the leaf axils, 1.5-2 cm in diameter. The sepals are narrowly lanceolate, 5 mm long, and recurve at the tip. 日本の山野の陽地や路傍に見られるシナノキ科の一年草で,高さ50cmに達する(イラスト)。全体に星状の短柔毛を密生する。葉は互生し,卵形ないし狭卵形で,長さ2.5~6cm,先端はやや鋭尖し,基部は円形または切形,ふちには鈍鋸歯があり,3行脈を有する。托葉は線形で長さ2~4mm,脱落性。花は葉腋(ようえき)に単生し,径1.5~2cm。萼片は狭披針形で長さ5mm,先端は細長くとがって反巻する。花弁は5枚,黄色で,倒卵形。
