…He is considered to be one of the three great physicians of classical Indian medicine, along with Charaka and Sushruta, but he is a person with a much clearer historical existence than the other two, and is probably the doctor mentioned by Gijo (635-715) in the Nankai Kigi Naippoden. However, there are two very similar works, the Aṣṭāṅga-saṃgraha and the Aṣṭāṅga-hṛdayasaṃhitā, and some scholars advocate the theory that there were two Bhagbhatas.
