Along with inferential statistics, it is one of the two major divisions that make up mathematical statistics. It was developed by F. Galton, K. Pearson, and others. Its main purpose is to describe the properties of observed statistical populations, and the populations observed are real, concrete populations (for example, the population of Japan as of a certain month and year), and their characteristics are understood through large-scale observation. In addition, statistical analysis such as frequency distribution, average, variance, time series, and correlation are used to describe the characteristics.
