Alongside the Royal Dutch Shell Group, it is one of the world's largest oil companies. It is also a major player in natural gas, chemicals, mining, and coal. In 1971, Jersey Standard (which was split off from Standard Oil) changed its name to Exxon, and at the same time Humble Petroleum Refining and Esso Chemical were renamed Exxon USA and Exxon Chemical, respectively, and became part of the company. It is a multinational corporation with regional headquarters in Eurasia and a single subsidiary in Canada, and is known outside the United States by the trademark Esso (ESSO).
