Cumberland (English spelling)
A city in northwestern Maryland, USA. It is located at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains, along a tributary of the Potomac River. It originated as a trading post established in the mid-18th century. It once prospered through the export of coal, and manufacturing was thriving.
A village on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. It is located in the southwest suburbs of Courtenay, a city on the east coast of the island. It is one of the villages in the Comox Valley. Coal was discovered there at the end of the 19th century, and it developed due to coal mining. Immigrants from various countries, including Japan and China, flowed in.

カナダ、ブリティッシュコロンビア州、バンクーバー島の村。同島東岸の都市コートニーの南西郊に位置する。コーモックスバレーの村の一つ。19世紀末に石炭が見つかり、炭鉱により発展。日本人や中国人をはじめ、各国からの移民が流入した。
