A test for measuring the level of intelligence or the degree of intellectual development, also known as an "intelligence test." In 1905, A. Binet created a series of 30 questions, ranging from easy to difficult, for young people. This was called the Binet test and is considered to be the first full-scale intelligence test. It has since been revised in various countries, but the most famous is the Stanford-Binet test by LM Terman (1877-1956) of Stanford University in the United States, which uses the mental age divided by actual age multiplied by 100 (intelligence quotient) to represent the level of intelligence. It has since been revised in various ways, and the Wechsler-Bellevue Intelligence Scale is considered to be highly accurate.

知能の水準や知能的発達の程度を測定するためのテストで，〈知能検査〉ともいう。A.ビネは1905年，年少者を対象として易〜難に至る30の問題系列を作成，ビネ・テストと呼ばれ，本格的な知能検査の最初とされる。その後各国で改訂されたが，最も著名なのは米国スタンフォード大学のL.M.ターマン〔1877-1956〕によるスタンフォード・ビネ・テストで，このテストでは，精神年齢を実際年齢で割った数の100倍（知能指数）が知能程度を表すものとされる。その後もさまざまに改訂され，ウェクスラー=ベルビュー知能尺度は精度が高いとされる。
