Chinchilla rat

Japanese: チンチラネズミ（英語表記）chinchilla rat

A general term for mammals of the Abrocomidae family of rodents. They resemble a field vole in appearance, but have fur that is somewhat similar to that of a chinchilla. There are the Japanese chinchilla Abrocoma bennetti and the rock chinchilla A. cinerea . They are found in the Andes Mountains of Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. They are 15-25 cm long, 6-18 cm long, and weigh 200-300 g. They have a stocky, round body and short limbs with four toes on the front feet and five on the back feet.

齧歯（げつし）目チンチラネズミ科Abrocomidaeの哺乳類の総称。外形はハタネズミに似るが，チンチラにやや似た毛質を備えている。チリチンチラネズミ(ヤブチンチラネズミ)Abrocoma bennettiとイワチンチラネズミA.cinereaがある。ペルー，ボリビア，チリ，アルゼンチンのアンデス山地に分布。体長15～25cm，尾長6～18cm，体重200～300g。体はずんぐりと丸く，四肢が短く，前足に4指，後足に5指がある。
