〘noun〙 A type of writing. Writing that primarily describes facts and things. Real writing. Article. * Elementary School Reader (1884) <Wakabayashi Torasaburo> 3 "Try to write an article about this picture in ten hours." [Additional note] During the Meiji period, it was considered important to learn this type of writing, which is written in the reading style of classical Chinese characters and katakana mixed together, and was adopted as a teaching material for school composition education. Many model essay collections were published, and so learning this was considered important.

〘名〙文章の種類の一つ。事実、事物を主として叙述する文。記実文。記事。※小学読本（1884）〈若林虎三郎〉三「此の画に就きて十分時間に一の記事文を綴ることを試みよ」[補注]明治期には、漢字片仮名まじりの漢文訓読体の文章で、学校の作文教育の教材にも採用され、模範文例集も数多く出版されるなど、これを学ぶことが重要視された。
