Kishida Drama Award

...This theater magazine was first published in April 1954 by Hakusuisha, with playwright Chikao Tanaka (1905-95) as editor-in-chief, and with the former "playwright" group of Naoya Uchimura and Yuji Koyama, as well as Tadashi Izawa, Tsuneari Fukuda, Yukio Mishima, Yutaka Mafune, Eijiro Hisaita, and Junji Kinoshita as editorial committee members. It focused on discovering new playwrights, and established the "New Drama Drama Award" (renamed the "Kishida Drama Award" in 1961) and the "New Drama Acting Award." Later, the magazine was also edited by Hakusuisha, and from the mid-1970s, it became edited by young anti-"new drama" theater people, including criticism of the established "new drama." ...

…劇作家の田中千禾夫（ちかお）(1905‐95)を編集責任者とし，内村直也，小山祐士ら旧《劇作》同人に飯沢匡，福田恒存，三島由紀夫，真船（まふね）豊，久板（ひさいた）栄二郎，木下順二らも編集委員となって1954年4月に創刊された白水社発行の演劇雑誌。新人劇作家発掘に力を入れ，〈新劇戯曲賞〉(1961年に〈岸田戯曲賞〉と改称)や〈新劇演技賞〉を創設した。のちには編集も白水社が主体の雑誌となり，70年代の半ばころからは既成の〈新劇〉への批判も含む，反〈新劇〉的な若手演劇人主体の編集となった。…
