...This theater magazine was first published in April 1954 by Hakusuisha, with playwright Chikao Tanaka (1905-95) as editor-in-chief, and with the former "playwright" group of Naoya Uchimura and Yuji Koyama, as well as Tadashi Izawa, Tsuneari Fukuda, Yukio Mishima, Yutaka Mafune, Eijiro Hisaita, and Junji Kinoshita as editorial committee members. It focused on discovering new playwrights, and established the "New Drama Drama Award" (renamed the "Kishida Drama Award" in 1961) and the "New Drama Acting Award." Later, the magazine was also edited by Hakusuisha, and from the mid-1970s, it became edited by young anti-"new drama" theater people, including criticism of the established "new drama." ... *Some of the terminology used in reference to the Kishida Drama Award is listed below.
